Background
The M5 line was built as a light metro with tunnels and smaller gauge trains than the pre-existing three Milan subway lines. It is also called the “lilac line” because of the color with which it is drawn on maps and is the main color used in the decoration of stations and trains. It intersects the M3 line at Zara station, the M2 line at Garibaldi FS station and the M1 line at Lotto station. Milan’s Metro 5 has a total of 19 stations connecting the city from San Siro to Parco Nord also intertwining other metro lines so as to connect the metro to Garibaldi central station
