Autostrada A35-Brescia-Bergamo-Milano (Brebemi) (2009-2013)

Background

The A35 Highway was created with the intention of improving the road system between Brescia, Bergamo and Milan, hence its name: BreBeMi. This Highway cuts across the Lombardy provinces and is conjoined to the TEEM at the height of Treviglio.

Although there was already a direct connection between Milan and Brescia via the A4 freeway, the Ministry of Infrastructure opted for the creation of an alternative section that would reduce traffic congestion. After the usual design and bidding phase, construction work on the A35 freeway section began in July 2009 and was completed in spring 2014.

The A35 highway was opened in July 2014 at the same time as the ARCO TEEM section of the Milan Outer East Ring Road, and it is precisely the full opening of the TEEM (May 2015) that has affected this highway with a 30 percent increase in traffic.

On November 13, 2017, the last missing piece of the entire system was activated, namely the direct connection to the A4 Highway in the immediate vicinity of the city of Brescia.

The Group’s Work

Work on the highway section, by the Migliaccio Group, began in 2009 and was completed in 2013. At the project’s disposal were 10 3-4 axle concrete mixers that alternated behind the pump or sometimes unloaded behind it simultaneously. In addition, 5 50-meter pumps were also used. The staff prepared for the machine park performed 8-hour shifts ensuring continuous work from day to night so as to minimize the duration of the work, some pours were made with a fiber-reinforced concrete. Leading construction manufacturers such as Holcim s.r.l and Serenissima S.p.a. were involved in the construction.
