Alta Velocità Bologna (2001-2012)

Background

Bologna Centrale station is the main railway station in the city of Bologna, in size (about 78,000m3) and volume of passenger traffic (58,000 per year) it is the fifth largest in Italy. Its location makes it a point of convergence for multiple lines in northern Italy, and the record for number of daily trains passing through is disputed between this station and the one in Rome Termini.

In 2013, 4 tracks dedicated to high-speed rail were activated in the new underground station.

The Group’s Work

From 2001 to 2012, the Migliaccio Group participated in the construction of the railway station housing the 4 high-speed tracks by cooperating with Astaldi. The Bologna station was built on three underground levels reaching a depth of 27 meters.

On the first underground floor there is the commercial gallery, on the second floor there is the so-called Kiss and Right that is an area dedicated to the companions of travelers, and on the third floor there are the high-speed train tracks.

The construction of all three floors was done with a K41 pump and a Putzmeister 46 pump used mostly for slabs, paving and docks.

Supporting the Work

The railway section connecting Bologna and Modena was built by collaborating with several contractors including Pizzarotti. During the construction of the section, a concrete bridge was also built with hyperstatic beams, having to withstand the stresses of high speed, with a heterogeneous grain curve. The construction of the bridge was carried out with massive pours of about 500/600m3 using a Putzmeister 46 pump. In addition to the station project, the Group also built the adjacent parking lot, consisting of 3 underground levels.

Minimum casts for the station ranged from 300 to 900 cubic meters per day.
In addition to the listed vehicles, there were also 4 other concrete mixers at the contractors’ disposal.
